Life on Earth: Reimagined

Life on Earth: Reimagined is a Sega Mega Drive release from Kai Magazine Software, serving as a prequel to Life on Mars: Genesis. Originally developed for MSX, the game was reworked and brought to 16-bit hardware following the relative success of its sequel. Unlike the Metroidvania structure of Life on Mars, this entry blends run-and-gun action, horizontal shoot ’em up segments, and platforming into a more arcade-driven experience.

The game stands out for its strong narrative presentation, detailed cutscenes, energetic soundtrack, and even an achievement system — a rare feature on the platform. The run-and-gun and shmup sections are generally solid, but the platforming often undermines the experience. Some platforms blend into the background, and the jump physics feel inconsistent, making certain stages frustratingly trial-and-error heavy. As a result, pacing suffers, and what could have been a tightly designed action title feels uneven despite its impressive presentation.
