Kunio no Nekketsu School Fighters is a fan-made fighting game released in September 2025 for the Sega Mega Drive after three years of development. Created by a single developer, it celebrates the Kunio-kun universe with a huge amount of fan service, from its roster of characters to recognizable arenas and soundtrack references. Iconic tunes from Kunio titles and even Double Dragon play on select stages, while classic settings like the soccer field from Kunio Kun no Nekketsu Soccer League immediately stand out.
The game plays smoothly and offers an accessible fighting experience with familiar faces like Kunio, Riki, Misuzu, and Abobo. While the move sets are somewhat limited compared to commercial fighters, the overall package feels like a heartfelt tribute that captures the spirit of the franchise.
