The Curse of Illmoore Bay is a story-driven action platformer for the Sega Mega Drive about three teenagers trying to save their small town from supernatural forces. The main antagonist hides inside a shopping mall, while the rest of the adventure takes place across a town overrun by zombies, ghosts, and other creatures. The premise strongly evokes classic 80s horror-comedy themes.

After defeating bosses, players gain special abilities that can be used for traversal or combat, though their usage is limited by an energy meter. The core gameplay focuses on straightforward jumping and fighting, but the game also includes secret rooms, an achievement system, and a built-in save feature. A two-player mode is available, though players take turns rather than playing simultaneously.
