Metal Gear

Metal Gear for the Sega Mega Drive is a fan-made port of the original 1987 MSX2 game, developed by Konami. This version was adapted by the programmer Hoffman, who first brought the game to the Amiga and later used that version as the base for the Mega Drive port. While unofficial, the release captures the spirit of the original stealth-action classic and brings it to 16-bit hardware for the first time.

The gameplay stays true to the MSX2 original: players take on the role of Solid Snake, infiltrating a fortified enemy base to destroy the walking battle tank Metal Gear. Stealth remains key — avoiding detection, sneaking past guards, and collecting weapons and keycards to progress. Controls are tight and the music and sound effects are impressively adapted for the Mega Drive. However, the port is not without flaws — bugs, missing polish, and punishing checkpoints might test the patience of some players.
