Enryuu Seiken Xiao-Mei (also known as Xiaomei and the Flame Dragon’s Fist) is a side-scrolling beat-’em-up released for the Sega Mega Drive in 2023. Originally developed for PC in 2019 and later ported to the Nintendo Switch, this version was brought to the Mega Drive by Columbus Circle as a throwback to 8-bit kung fu games like Spartan X (a.k.a. Kung-Fu Master). The game embraces its retro roots with a clean pixel-art style and fast-paced action.
Gameplay is straightforward: you move from left to right, punching and kicking waves of enemies as you climb through five short stages. The combat system is extremely simple, offering just a few basic moves, and the game can be completed in under 20 minutes. While it captures the charm of 80s arcade games, the lack of depth and variety feels dated, especially on a 16-bit console.
