Last Defense 2 is a horizontal shoot ’em up developed by AAR Games as a follow-up to the original Last Defense. While it continues the story of humanity’s fight against an alien invasion, the gameplay and presentation remain largely unchanged. The graphics are minimalist, the pace moderate, and the structure familiar to anyone who played the first entry.
Combat is straightforward — no power-ups, limited weapon variety, and repetitive boss encounters. Still, the soundtrack stands out as one of the stronger aspects, and the story once again tries to add some narrative depth to an otherwise basic shooter. It’s a decent effort, but one that feels more like an expansion than a true sequel.
